Skin skis are waxless classic skis that have a synthetic mohair 'skin' embedded in the base of the ski to give you something to kick against. Unlike conventional 'fishscale' waxless bases, which wear out over time and can't be replaced, the synthetic skin is removable and can be easily replaced if it wears out. Some skin skis even come with interchangeable skins that can be swapped in and out if you need more grip or more glide.
